Ellen?

Have you heard the news? If you are an American Idol fan, yes I am, then you remember hearing Paula Abdul will not be coming back for the new season. They would only offer $8 million instead of the $10 million she wanted or some such nonsense. Don't get me wrong, I loved Paula, especially this past season but come on! Anyway no need to fret about it because Ellen Degeneres has joined the panel of judges! Ellen! Who doesn't love her? She is totally one of my favorites and I can't wait for the new season of Idol. I think she will be a great addition. Who better to difuse Simon? I believe she will completely upstage the annoying one...what is her name? Ellen is a very nice person so I'm sure she'll provide that same kindness that Paul did, which I think was vital to the show. She can certainly have lots of fun playing off of snarling Simon. Of course, Randy is everyone's teddy bear anyway. Great panel of judges for a great show.

Oh! I heard this on the radio this morning nad I have mixed feelings. I LOVE Ellen, but I don;t know if this is really the smartest choice. In the past all of the judges had some sort of knowledge of the music business. She knows show business but does she know singing? Just b/c she open her shows with some awesomely bad dancing - that doesn't qualify her. Plus she was a guest judge on SYTYCD this season and it was a ridiculous waste of time. She got some good jokes in but that's it. Each time it was her turn to "judge" you could tell all she did while she was watching the 2 minute performance was think about the joke she was going to tell... we'll see ...

I know! I'm shocked to hear about it but bet she'll be hilarious!

I think you're right in that she could put Simon in his place. I love Ellen too however she has absolutely no experience in music so I don't think she is the best choice out there.

Oh wow i love Ellen. I may start watching the show again.

She may not have great musical experience.

But, she is one savvy entertainer and knows the world of show business.

I think it will not only save the show but just possibly make it better than it's ever been!!

I'm glad she's going to be the fourth judge. Granted, she's not a music exec, a singer, or a song writer, but she is someone who listens to and buys music. Maybe it's time someone looked at the performances from that angle (would I buy the CD kind of angle) as opposed to can the person sing the phone book, the clothes are dreadful, etc. Plus, you don't have to be in the music industry to know whether someone is pitchy. You just can't be tone deaf.

Who knows? Maybe we'll be surprised and find out that she was a member of her high school's glee club. You never know.

I liked Paula, but felt she wasted too much time talking in circles. I love to watch Idol and I love Simon. I love Ellen, but I'll wait and see how it goes. She may know a lot more about music than we realize and I'm sure she'll be entertaining. If Simon ever leaves I don't know if I'd continue to watch because he's the only one that sounds real to me.

She's going to be so so funny. No more "weird behavior" like the kind we grew accustomed to from Paula. Only problem is she really has no insight into the music industry. But I guess all you really need is an ear maybe two...to know whether a person can sing or not...

I agree that Ellen will be great for the show as far as keeping fun and upbeat. But I am not so sure that she knows anything about singing. Does she? Does she sing herself? I can't recall if I've ever heard her paired with music before. I might have to tune in again this season. It's been a while.

I heard this news and wasn't sure what to think. Ellen is funny, but not sure about her musical experience.
I'll have to tune in and see how it goes.

She was a guest judge on the Dance version and it wasn't a good fit for her. She had no knowledge therefor she didn't really have any advice for the dancers. If she's looking for more work she should look in her area, I don't like the idea of her on the show even though I do like her...occasionally. (she can be really obnoxious)

I love American Idol and was really bummed when I heard Paula was leaving. When I first heard that Ellen was going to be Paula's replacement, I was a bit disappointed but I have thought about it and seen Ellen's announcement on her show and now I am excited to see next season. She said she wants to be the judge that gives the music buyer's perspective. I like that and I believe that would be a great addition to the panel of judges. Plus she is just hilarious.

I am one of the few people left in the world that DOES NOT watch American Idol.

But now that Ellen will be hosting...I might give it a try!

She's so much fun!

That's strange they picked Ellen. I love Ellen, I'm even following her on twitter, but couldn't they get someone that has some background in this. After all, these people who try out are really serious, and Ellen is a comedian not a performer..love your blog !!!
