Eradication!

Relax, I got it! As many of you are aware, I have had a monumental problem with crickets around (and in) my house for the past several weeks. The other night I was going out into my garage and, following my newly developed procedure, I first turned on the light switch, then hit the (metal) door to announce my intention prior to opening said door. I then opened the door and visually scanned the steps, clear. I did, however, spot a cricket on the rug at the bottom of the stairs so I stomped down the steps and continued to stomp as I reached the bottom. Just as I stomped my left foot, I felt something in my slipper! I kicked my left slipper off of my foot, while screaming at my husband because we all know this was his fault! Cricket no. 1 was confused and scampering away thankfully. Cricket no. 2 was dead, squished in my slipper so now I have cricket guts on my foot!! Aaaarrrghhhh! I sat down on the step to scrape guts off of my foot and noticed on my right pant leg the cricket innards had squirted onto my pants.
On my way upstairs to take a shower and throw my clothes in the washing machine, I quietly and calmly informed my hubs of "WTH all that screaming was about", notice he didn't come out to investigate.
Last night we went to visit some very dear friends of ours and during the evening, over cake and coffee, we were sharing our cricket dilemmas. Our friends were just in disbelief that my hubs couldn't manage to spray some kind of something to alleviate this problem. He is Mr. Home Depot with shelves just chock full of stuff out in that garage.
I slept a little late this morning and when I came downstairs for coffee my hubs informed me that he had thoroughly sprayed and eradicated all crickets in a 50 foot radius of our house. Thank you Faith and George.

Ewww, I probably wouldn't be able to put the slipper back on ever again. Glad your husband took care of them

I'm still trying to figure out why you hate crickets so much. Sigh. So much for your good luck--you just squished it.

ewww. I am freaked out by most bugs. But crickets are just so unpredictable. You never know which way they are going to jump.

We have people come and treat the house every 3 months because those things scare the poo out of me Lol

Are you talking about crickets, or CRICKETS? There's a difference. I have CAVE CRICKETS. These are HUGE, and have legs like giant grasshoppers. Did I forget to mention that they're also BLIND? So what do they do? The leap AT ME cuz they have no idea what they're doing. Look them up, then embrace YOUR crickets. Mine could carry a gun!!!

When I was growing up we had crickets all over the place in our basement. I don't think my parents did much to get rid of them. We sort of got used to their chirping at night.

I like crickets myself and have never had one harm me in any way. I think they're nice and we also used them to fish with, sorry you hate them.

Oh Lin is just like my mother. She always told me to never ever kill a cricket. If you do their will be more and more that will come back to torture you!!

I try not to be superstitious but I still won't kill a cricket if I can avoid it. I pick them up and put them outside.

Of course, it sounds like you had a real infestation going on there!!

We always put sulfur out for fleas and ticks and everything. it's something my hubby picked up growing on a farm.

It works and is non toxic to your pets.

Ewwww....I don;t even want to think about the squish!! Yuck for you!!

Well, I was down all weekend and I am rushing like mad to get caught up and now it thundered really really loud.

I am hoping we don;t have storms at least for another 4 or 5 hours!!

Happy Monday!!
Jackie:-)

Crazy! I recently blogged about our cricket problem too. I HATE THEM!! However, my DH hasn't sprayed yet. I guess I'm not making a big enough stink about it? =) It's so funny that you'd mention the garage, because I also flip the light on before attempting to walk into there. It's crazy how many scatter! ICK!
