We Have A Winner!

First of all I want to say thanks for all who participated in the handbag giveaway! I had lots of participants and I know this because I wrote names on a whole lot of little scraps of paper! My husband then had the honor of reaching into the bowl and choosing just one of the many names of those entrants. Who is it?

Congratulations Lee and I really hope you love your new bag! Lee chose the brown and green bag which happens to be one of my personal favorites (I might have to make another like it for myself).
For all of you who entered and did not win, sorry, maybe if things get dull I'll do another giveaway.

A Bit Of Irony - And A Giveaway Clue!

As you know if you have been reading my recent posts, we have been hit with snowstorms of epic proportions here lately. Since last Friday we have accumulated 4-5 feet of snow in the area. (God Bless the snow plow drivers) I know, it's ridiculous. Not just the snow though, but we have also had high winds creating blizzard conditions, downed wires, power outages by the thousands. All first responders have been on constant high alert.
At 2:30am on Wednesday morning, in the midst of the latest blizzard, a two-alarm call went out to firefighters for a building ablaze in Dundalk. It took 2 hours to get the fire under control as the roof collapsed causing approximately $600,000 in damage. The building that went up in flames? The Sollers Point fire station. The building housed 2 National Guardsmen in addition to a full compliment of fire fighters. There were no personal injuries caused by the fire. The fire and collapsing roof did destroy 1 brand new fire engine (delivered last week), 2 ambulances, 1 bush truck and 1 Humvee. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
I'm hoping it wasn't an overloaded electric outlet or a space heater. Talk about life's most embarrassing moments! Those guys might want to explore a career change.

Thanks & Hugs & Giveaways & Bright Copper Kettles & Warm Woolen Mittens...

I want to extend a big Thank You to a couple of blogsters out there. First is FishHawk for including me in his list of Sites To See. I very much appreciate the shout out. The next one is John for the EC credits. I was one of the runners up in a contest I didn't even know about! Happy second blogversary John! I'm sure you all know these blogs well but in case you don't, just click on the links and stop by soon.

I have an update on little baby Colton. First I want to say thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes, you know that makes all the difference. Colton has had a second surgery and came through with flying colors, he's a strong little boy. His weight is just over 5 lbs! Now he has to be tough and reach all of his benchmarks for a bit. I am going to visit him on Tuesday, can't wait to see him!

Hugs to blueviolet! Her road is a little bumpy right now and she could use a little support from her friends!

Don't forget about my giveaway. What is it, you ask? Well, we don't know yet. We know that it will be handmade by me, and we know the fabric that it will be made from and I guess we'll have to check in on Thursday to see what sort of shape it is taking on! There are some wonderful suggestions coming in from all of you. Yesterday we had.....wrap skirt, hawaiin shirt, sarong, summer bag, clothesline bag....whatever will it become?

This Beauty Screams Giveaway

I was digging through my fabric stash the other day looking for inspiration and I came across this gorgeous piece. It spoke to me, yes, it began as a soft whisper then reached a crescendo that I was unable to ignore!
We need to shake things up around here a little bit. This bloggy world has been a little lethargic lately. Have we all been afflicted by SAD? Is that it? Are we just sitting like lumps and waiting for spring to arrive? Christmas was only a few weeks ago, but seems like forever. For me, this is the draggiest part of the year. How about you?
Onward...This piece of fabric is lovely, the colors are just fabulous. It looks like a watercolor painting. What would you imagine this should become? What would you like to see made out of this? Leave a comment and let me know and this will give you one entry to win the giveaway which will end on February 28th. Next week we will have an opportunity for additional entries. Be creative and let me know what you would like to see.

Book Review And Giveaway

Recently I received an email offering me a chance to review this book. When I read the title of the book, Uncommon Wisdon and Universal Truths from 10 Year Olds and 100 Year Olds, I knew it would be worth a read. I was not disappointed. Beginning at page 1, I was smiling and nodding my head and that continued through to the last page. The book is a compilation of stories, philosophies, beliefs from people all over the country and from both ends of the age spectrum. You will hear people that you know and love as you read these words and absorb the stories.

From the author, Roger Fishman:

My grandfather, Jacob Bloch, was my hero. From behind the cash register of his five-and-dime department store, Jacob collected stories and bits of wisdom that he would bring home to share with his family. His firm belief was that there is wisdom in every single person's life story....I was stirred to honor my grandfather's tradition....and so I set out to listen to and record life stories and wisdom from opposite ends of the life spectrum.

The author has been kind enough to offer a signed copy of his book for me to give away to one lucky person! So go ahead, enter now to win. You have 6 chances to win! Giveaway ends at midnight on January 5th.

To participate in the giveaway simply:

1. Leave me a comment for a chance to win.
2. Blog about my giveaway and leave me a comment with a link to the post. This will get you 2 entries.
3. Follow my blog for 1 entry and if you are a follower already then let me know.
4. Follow my blog via RSS feed for 1 entry.
